A Call for Phoenixville School Board Director Scott Overland to Resign

On the school day of Friday, February 6, 2026, Phoenixville School Board Director Scott Overland declared on his official Facebook* account “I’m so proud of our Phoenixville students for exercising their First Amendment rights today in speaking out against the horrific actions of ICE by walking out of school. It takes bravery to be willing to stand up, and yes, break a few official school policies, but we are not in normal times.”

Let’s break this down, shall we? In his official capacity, Phoenixville School Board Director Scott Overland, by allowing our students to “break a few official school policies” proudly placed our students (minor children) in harm’s way in that they were absent from school without permission and without the knowledge of their parents. And he is proud of his decision.

Let’s leave politics out of this. The real issue is the safety of our children. But Phoenixville School Board Director Scott Overland is using our minor children as cannon fodder to promote his own political views. Other similar events have occurred throughout the nation and with tragic results of children being arrested, hit by cars, and assaulting innocent bystanders. If, may God forbid, a Phoenixville student was to be injured or worse while engaging in his political endeavors, it would be an unimaginable tragedy, and the ensuing lawsuits would be justified.

Kids are just kids and that’s why God made adults. But some adults have yet to grow up. Phoenixville School Board Director Scott Overland is not up to the task of being an adult and should therefore not be left in charge of our children. To be an adult means sacrificing one’s wants and at times even one’s needs, for the sake of the children in one’s care. But Phoenixville School Board Director Scott Overland in his official capacity, is acting selfishly in promoting his political views over the safety of our children all the while trampling on the rights of the parents who left their children in his care.

As you hide behind your official capacity and behind our children, and as you have commended the bravery of our children, we hereby call you out, Scott Overland, for you are indeed a coward.

​

For creating and condoning a situation of child endangerment, Phoenixville School Board Director Scott Overland is in dereliction of his duties. He should be censured by the Phoenixville Area School District School Board, and resign or be fired.

​

To the rest of the Phoenixville Area School District School Board: Do you uphold the values of protecting children? Do you have the integrity to take these actions against Overland? Surely these actions may be unpopular but as a local author once wrote, “Integrity is maintaining one’s values in the face of adversity.”  So, ask yourselves, do you have the values? Do you have the integrity? If not, then we would ask you also to resign, for you have no business running our schools and especially have no business in being in charge of keeping our children safe.
